Syv De Blare 'Wake' by Margot Bowman & Syv De Blare
Rob Ulitski - 17th Apr 2020
Avant-garde pop songstress Syv De Blare bids farewell to a lover, whilst simultaneously embracing her womanhood, in the video for Wake - a collaboration between the artist and Margot Bowman.Â
Opening in a red room enveloped in a feathered wedding dress, De Blare embodies three characters, each remarking on different identities and societal expectations. As a bride, showgirl and popstar, the multifaceted performance and wardrobe choices embody ideas of possession, commodity and the pressure put on women and their bodies.Â
Mclean Francis' striking art direction elevates these themes, using bold reds and blues to create a sense of frustration and confinement. Margot Bowman's background in creative direction helps create a succinct and arresting concept that is not only intoxicating to watch, but holds an important message at its core.Â
