The Lemon Twigs 'I Wanna Prove To You' by Nick Roney
David Knight - 14th Feb 2017
Nick Roney took The Lemon Twigs - that's teenage brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario - to stay with his real grandparents, in Pleasant Grove, Utah, for a few days to discover what it takes to have a long-term loving relationship. In their case, one going on fifty years.
And if that sounds a bit dull, it's only because we're trying not to blurt out right away that this has to be the funniest music video since... well, its actually hard to remember a funnier one.
In some ways this shares characteristics with Ryan Staake's video for Young Thug in its meta-ness. But Roney's concept does not depend on complete believability to be thoroughly entertaining. Perhaps it's not even that original, but the important thing that it is life-affirmingly hilarious.
In our dark times I think this video has to be classified as an absolute gift. And on Valentines Day....
NICK RONEY:
"The song is about proving your love which is something I can’t really fathom. But I figured my grandparents knew something about it because they had been married for 50-years, so their relationship seemed to make an appropriate backdrop for the video.
"Overall the experience was heartbreaking for me but I wish The Lemon Twigs and my grandparents the best and hold no ill-will against them.”
