Slaves 'Cheer Up London' by Ben & Ross
Cat Velez - 11th May 2015
So you've had all weekend to digest the result of the general election, and you may well be even more down in the dumps than you were on Friday. Well, punk duo The Slaves have a message: 'cheer up London. It's not that bad.'
Well, we'll see... But Ben & Ross have delivered a rip-roaring video where the pair spread the good times, accumulating a band of enthusiastic followers, and a double decker bus – and the clincher: free ice cream – all in the style of one continuous shot. What's not to love?
BEN & ROSS:
"The band came to us with an idea of gathering all the miserable faces of London and pulling them together for a huge celebration in a park. This nearly gave our producer a heart attack!
"Our initial idea was to explore the concept through a car dashboard camera. A small London traffic incident, that grows in scale and absurdity. You see these videos on YouTube: Londoners at each other throats over the cycle lane. It's pretty pathetic when you think about it. So what you now see, is a version that starts as we intended but develops into something more dynamic and fluid. We get a great energetic performance from the band whilst creating what feels like a seamless one shot (almost).
"We had a lot of fun!"
