Neneh Cherry 'Spit Three Times ' by Bafic

David Knight - 18th Dec 2014

In photographer and director Bafic's brooding video for Spit Three Times, Neneh Cherry takes a backseat night-time drive through the city, and performs among hanging roses, the slow revelation and repetition of imagery, like the lights of a motorway underpass, draws attention to the emotional nature of the lyrics, written in the aftermath of the sudden death of Neneh's mother and her ensuing grief and depression.

"Bafic picked up on the intimate nature of my lyrics in this song," Cherry has told FADER. "I am a fighter and I fought back from the edge of hell. Bafic captures this fight with his imagery, especially the flowers and the long motorway underpass shots. I am very proud of this simple yet effective little short film. It means a heck of a lot to me personally."
