William Adamson 'Flatlands' by Nicola Mills

Jimmy Brown - 24th Nov 2014

Long-time collaborators director Nicola Mills and producer Astrid Edwards team up to make this engaging short film in London and the wilds of Suffolk for Ex-Galliano frontman William Adamson to partner his track Flatlands, released this week on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings label.

NICOLA MILLS

"Just before making the film I saw a man on a tube platform, listening to music on headphones and practicing dance moves. Some people watched, some people ignored him - he simply carried on; I wondered where his final performance would be.

"This moment became the inspiration for Flatlands. We would meet an ordinary man, Rob Gallagher lead singer of William Adamson, follow him and watch as he transformed, almost imperceptibly, to a different character, from another era leading to a final choreographed performance.

"I was after a simple yet intriguing journey: from London to Suffolk - a location that inspired the track - from Rob to ‘William Adamson’, a character from the album Under An East Coast Moon and the name of the band".
