Bastille 'Things We Lost In The Fire' by Naor Aloni

David Knight - 19th July 2013

Naor Aloni weaves an intriguing crime story for Bastille's Things We Lost In The Fire, which transitions smoothly between more naturalistic scenes and dark, dreamlike set-pieces. Naor travelled to Lithuania to create this very opaque, almost Lynchian tale, packed with stunning images.

Naor Aloni:

"I wanted to create a space that was both cinematic and mystical, somewhere that you couldn't really identify or recognise. I thought that it would be interesting if we filmed in a wide, flat and deserted landscape, but light it as if we were shooting in a studio. We could then play with visual motifs and make it look cryptic and dreamy.

"The band was touring in Europe on a tight schedule so the real challenge was to find a desert near by. Everything happened so fast that before we had time to think, my DOP Jake Scott and I were on a plane to Lithuania looking for locations two days before the shoot.

"I have to give a huge credit to my producer Sonya and Nordic Productions in Lithuania for getting it done over a weekend of pre-production."
