Tropics 'Home & Consonance' by Chris Toumazou
David Knight - 5th July 2013
Somewhere in deepest English suburbia there's a house where you can exchange favours for money. And the style hints subtly at 70s soft-core but Chris Toumazou brings us a very English kind of bordello in the video for Tropics' Home & Consonance. You don't actually get any sex....
Chris Toumazou:
"I've wanted the video to feel cinematic and very much removed from reality in the sense of aesthetic and tone. Chris (artist, Tropics) fundamentally wanted the video to feel like a film in pace and mood. By putting together an overall narrative-led structure with high attention to detail within the mise-en-scene and costume, helped us successfully realise the cinematic potential of the track within the capabilities of the music video format.
"Robert White, the DoP, shot Alexa Plus high speed, with anamorphic lenses to exaggerate the viewing angle. I wanted a softer less digital quality to the look so anamorphic lens aberrations really gave that edge. Robert is also a lighting genius so that helped a lot to.
"COMPULSORY, our London based production company helped bring the project to fruition along with exec producer, Alex Hotz."
