Three Trapped Tigers 'Reset' by Chris Boyle

David Knight - 21st Sept 2011

Chris Boyle's astonishing, utterly bonkers video for Three Trapped Tigers' Reset features the commanding presence of Matt Berry as The Leader - the self-styled saviour of the world.

Chris Boyle's astonishing, utterly bonkers video for Three Trapped Tigers' Reset features the commanding presence of Matt Berry as The Leader - the self-styled saviour of the world. And what a world it is - Armageddon, apocalypse (and lots of significant triangles) in an insane mash-up of VFX and animation styles (handdrawn, 2D and 3D) that Chris Boyle has lovingly created over an epic seven or so minutes. Without question, a jawdropping, hugely entertaining (and did we say completely mad) tour de force. "The band were hunting for a follow-up video to the great one made by Garth and Ginny, and I was in the right place at the right time. I'm pretty sure that Simon from Blood and Biscuits thought I was a nutter, but nevertheless I managed to convince him what Three Trapped Tigers really needed was the video bastard lovechild of Dan Brown and L. Ron Hubbard. "The video took about 12 weeks to make, mainly because the budget was about £400 so I designed posters, made rubbish websites and blocked out the animation in the gaps between doing grown-up animation and direction jobs. "At some point along the way I managed to persuade the awesome Matt Berry to come on board, who I think was perhaps unaware he would be spending the day dressed as a Vulcan Bishop, but fortunately took it all in his stride and knocked it out the park. Possibly the only people who weren't phased by it were regular collaborators Nick Wood and Caroline Story who were amazingly generous with their time and, as ever, delivered the goods along with the rest of the crew. "Then I finished the animation and showed it to the band, who to their eternal credit didn't blink when I said that I was going to take their six minute long track and add two minutes and would they mind tweaking their audio to fit picture. "That's it really. Adult Swim were kind enough to premiere it for us and now it's here, oh, and I'm looking for representation..." Three Trapped Tigers
Reset (Blood and Biscuits)
The Leader: Matt Berry
Direction, Production and Animation: Chris Boyle DoP: Nick Wood
Production Design : Caroline Story
Make up: Katy Sparkes
Location Sound: Tom Harburt
