They have been making great videos for decades, and arguably&nbsp;the greatest music video band of all time. No pressure then, for Rich Hall, to direct a worthy addition to the great canon of work for Depeche Mode. But he has risen to the challenge.For People Are Good, the latest single from the latest album Memento Mori, the Riff Raff Films-based director&nbsp;has faced down the weight of 40-plus years of Depeche Mode music video history, with a promo which nods to the visual style that has become their hallmark, while establishing its own heartfelt identity.Combining stylishness, brilliant film craft with a considered&nbsp;exposition of the theme of the song, Hall has created a series of intensely dramatic vignettes, shot in black and white by DoP Martin Ruhe, in a heightened cinematic, dreamlike reality.[imgtoken data:1]In each one we are confronted with a seeming act&nbsp;of wrongdoing or human frailty - expressed in the human pile-up of a riot, a woman digging a grave, a confrontation of&nbsp;macho gang bosses, and so on - each taking palce in front of a white wall. Then the true reality in each situation is gradually revealed. It's a counterpoint to Dave Gahan's somewhat ambivalent vocals for People Are Good.&nbsp;The video&nbsp;is evocative and bold, exploring the complex nature of human beings in a unique and distinctive way. And it really is a worthy addition to the pantheon - all the more impressive for the short amount of time that Rich Hall and his team had for pre-production and the shoot itself.[imgtoken data:2]“It’s equal parts an honour and daunting when making a video for Depeche Mode," says Hall. The song reminded me of the fragility of human relationships, how easy we forget, how easily we’re misled. So, I came up with the idea to somehow immortalize those every day, human interactions, in front of a white wall and heighten them to the extent that they feel like art (well, sort of)."It wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support of Riff Raff, Black Kite, and the good people at Columbia US. London-based editing house Stitch Editing has announced the promotion of editor Max Windows to the role of Partner.A highly sought-after editor and regular award-winner for his work in commercials, short films and music videos, Max Windows has been Stitch since it was formed 16 years ago.He started as an assistant editor&nbsp;in the original Stitch line-up - when Leo King, Tim Hardy and Angela Hart started the company - and has now risen to one of its senior roles. Yarns has announced that film critic James King will be returning to host this year’s screening of the four films made by this year's Yarns finalists, on 16th November at Prince Charles Cinema, in London's West End.King is a writer, broadcaster and one of the UK’s best-known film critics, appearing&nbsp;regularly on television and radio programmes. He is BBC Radio 2’s resident movie critic on the Jo Whiley Show and has his own BBC Radio 2 series My Soundtrack Stories -&nbsp;where he has interviewed renowned directors such as Quentin Tarantino, Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan. He is returning as presenter of this year's Yarns screening at tthe Prince Charles, for the second year running.The screening will also see a performance by one of the UK’s leading spoken word poets, Miss Yankey. Known for her work on BBC Radio 1XTRA, BT Sport and BAFTA winning show ‘Life and Rhymes’, excerpts of her work served as this year’s brief, asking entrants to start with the ending for their films.Miss Yankey states: "To know that this year's brief were my own words has been so exciting," says Miss Yankey. "I’m incredibly passionate about bringing Spoken Word into new spaces, so to have an opportunity to inspire young filmmakers with my poetry is mind blowing. Iain Simpson reflects on male friendship and mental health in this playful promo for Skream.&nbsp;The trippy promo for Funky Sailor spans a series of inventive vignettes, taking us on the main character's emotional journey and all of the little moments that get him from A to B.&nbsp;Equal parts emotional and heartfelt, the video perfectly matches the coruscating track, and the experimental vibes within it. And as Iain Simpson explains, the themes are an expression of personal experience.“This video is a reflection of my own journey of going through depression and coming out the other side," he reveals. "Having fun with your best mates can shine a powerful light during dark times."At the same time I didn’t want to get too deep with this video and wanted to make something playful and fun. The four mentors who will guide the finalists for this year's <a href="https://yarnsfilm.co.uk/" target="_blank">Yarns</a> - Stitch and Homespun's prestigious annual short film competition - have been announced.The mentors are Meji Alabi, director at RSA/Black Dog Films; Marta&nbsp;Bobic, executive producer and MD at CANADA London; Ninian Doff, director at Pulse Films; and Keith McCarthy, director at Stink Films. As with previous years, each of the mentors will partner with the four finalists of this year's competition - Tom&nbsp;Gentle and Sam Brain, Holly Hunter,&nbsp;Juliet Klottrup,&nbsp;Doug Redfern and Joe Roberts&nbsp;- to help them navigate the process from&nbsp;script development to post-production, and create the best possible short film.The scripts of the four short films have all been written inspired by the brief for this year's competition,&nbsp;titled The Ends. Mentors unveiled for finalists of this year's Yarns competition 

Denisha Anderson teams up with Purple Disco Machine, Duke Dumont and Nothing But Thieves for cinematic collab Something On My Mind, to create a Pulp Fiction-like narrative within an intriguing time loop structure.&nbsp;For the video, Anderson was inspired by Maya Deren's Meshes Of The Afternoon,&nbsp;and wanted to create a fantasy romance, using a time loop pattern of confusion and lust.&nbsp;With each loop, the storyline unfolds as the&nbsp;lead protagonists go on a&nbsp;whirlwind trip joyriding in a Porsche&nbsp;and robbing diners.[imgtoken data:1]It's a big and very successful leap into bigger concepts for Denisha Anderson, who navigates a hybrid narrative / performance promo with flair, cleverly interweaving the storyline with enigmatic shots of the artists - Tino Piontek aka Purple Disco Machine, and Noting But Thieves&nbsp;tied up in a basement.&nbsp;"It couldn’t have&nbsp;gone any better, despite it being the first time I had no contact with the artists prior to filming," explains Anderson."Day 1 was a remote shoot with our team filming Purple Disco Machine in Berlin. He was an absolute gent to work with whilst being tied up and placed in the back of a boot with myself and my DOP directing him via a laptop from London.&nbsp;"On Day 2 we shot Nothing but Thieves in person, and again it was such a pleasurable experience. The whole band had&nbsp;great energy and Connor (the lead singer) was up for anything and everything I threw at him.[imgtoken data:2]"For this narrative video, I got for the first time to choose professional actors which was a luxury for me.&nbsp;I needed people who were confident, comfortable and convincing for the roles I had written. I had an amazing casting director who managed to get around 130 to audition for our lead roles; it was a long day of tape watching, but to our joy we knew we had found our protagonists in Bonina and Seamus. And after our rehearsal day, I felt excited and confident that they were going to deliver and they went above and beyond."As a director you have memorable moments on set and for this one it was the end of Day 2 which was Hot Rod Diner.&nbsp;I know it sounds cheesy but I thought to myself:&nbsp;'Sh*t the bed I’m really living my dreams'.”
