Promonews - 5th Sept 2023

Sasha Rainbow, the visionary director renowned for her groundbreaking music videos, campaigns, the award-winning short film Kamali, and a highly anticipated debut feature, is embarking on a thrilling new chapter in her career. She is now positioned to make waves in both the UK and France as she collaborates with the cutting-edge creative production powerhouse, Ocurens.

This New Zealand-born director has forged an indomitable reputation as a maestro of storytelling, pushing the boundaries of human narratives. She has garnered praise and recognition from platforms such as The Independent, BBC World Service, BBC Breakfast, The Guardian, Variety, Dazed Digital, and Nowness, solidifying her status as a true luminary in the industry.

Having directed acclaimed and award-winning videos, including for Placebo's Life Is What You Make It and Suki Waterhouse's Good Looking Boy, and working with brands including KFC, Apple, Toyota, Puma, Lancome and EE, Rainbow has recently completed her debut feature film, the female-led body horror Grafted.

Her distinctive storytelling and visual mastery have been evident in her work, such as the critically acclaimed EE campaign that united audiences behind messages of hope. The BAFTA-nominated short film Kamali - featuring an Indian girl skateboarder - provided a heartwarming narrative that resonated deeply with audiences.

Now Rainbow is set to embark on a new stage of her journey as a filmmaker. She joins Ocurens, the production company founded in Paris in 2017 by director Valentin Petit and producer Germain Robin, which has now set up offices in London, headed by Emmanuelle Le Chat. Rainbow will be represented for all types of commissions, in both London and Paris.

With a recent expansion into London, Ocurens has already embarked on diverse projects for renowned brands, has ventured into documentary filmmaking and is developing a short film about a woman suffering from Endometriosis. The company's dedication to nurturing talent while maintaining a small roster reflects its commitment to producing exceptional work.

”I’m so excited to join the Ocurens family - a family, founded by forward thinking creatives who truly put their hearts into everything they do," says Sasha Rainbow. "I know we will do incredible things together, and I am ready for a wild ride of epic creativity and adventure, working on projects that truly resonate with us all.”

Emmanuelle Le Chat, EP at Ocurens in London, adds: "Sasha is a superb storyteller and a brilliant human being who is deeply passionate about her craft. She is truly one in a million and our teams across Europe and the UK are genuinely ecstatic about this relationship."
