Andi Chu returns to Electric Theatre Collective as Colourist

Promonews - 15th June 2023

Electric Theatre Collective have welcomed Andi Chu to its Colour team, heralding her return to the Whitechapel, East London-based VFX outfit, after a break of more than three years.

Having learned her craft as an assistant in the Colour department, Chu left ETC in 2020. Now she returns in the role of full Colourist, as the Colour team at the company continues its expansion under Head of Colour Luke Morrison and Colour Executive Producer Oliver Whitworth.

Born and raised in Taiwan, Chu was heavily influenced by both film and music while growing up, before coming to London to study. Before entering the world of Post Production she gained a Bachelors in Architecture and an MA in Performance Design (Digital Scenography) which left her with a wide skill set and varied body of work, contributing towards her distinct visual sensibilities and creative approach.

She brings a top-drawer portfolio with her to Electric Theatre Collective. This includes work for brands such as Adidas, Amazon Music, Samsung, Glenlivet, KFC, BBC, Sky, Freeview, Arsenal, Budweiser. In the past year she has also graded music videos for Liam Gallagher, KSI, Tom Grennan, Burna Boy, Jazmin Bean and Yard Act. And she has worked with directors such as James Slater, Fa&Fon, Jocelyn and Dawn, Keith Schofield and Mathery.

Chu was shortlisted at the inaugural Young Arrows and Kinsale Shark awards in the Colour Grading category for her work on ‘Awesome is for Everyone’ for Samsung. The same year, her work on the music video “New Moon” for MØ was awarded Bronze at the Creative Circle awards for best Colour grading.

When she’s not in a dark grade suite, Chu can be found in even darker rooms, two stepping to techno music. Or in wide open spaces, climbing up lavish limestone cliffs in Kalymnos.

“The people are one of the main reasons I came back to ETC," she says. "During my time away we remained friends and whenever we had a catch up, it just reminded me how likeminded we are and how we shared a vision.

"I am grateful to have met many inspirational artists, producers and management people. This community is changing, for the most part for the better. I’m very happy to be in an agile industry that reflects the progress in cultural values, and ETC is a strong force behind pushing things forward and always questioning; not only their work but how they work.”
