Long-running annual Super 8mm film competition straight 8 has launched it's 2018 challenge, inviting "anyone, anywhere" to make a short film on a single cartridge of Super 8mm cine film, with no retakes, no editing and no post-production.
Entry is open now until the delivery deadline of Monday, March 19th, with entries strictly limited to 150 places, first come, first served.
Eight winning entries will be screened at the annual straight 8 premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in mid-May - which will also be the first time that the sucessful entrants will have the watch their own films.
The jury selecting the 8 straight 8’s to be shown in Cannes includes Asif Kapadia, Academy and BAFTA award-winning director of Senna and Amy; Justine Wright, editor of Denial, Touching The Void; Hamish Moseley, head of distribution at Altitude Film Distribution (Moonlight, Lady Macbeth); and chaired by film critic, journalist and broadcaster Jason Solomons.
straight 8 founder, Ed Sayers, says: “Offering people the cinema screen for 3 minutes 20 seconds, with no creative brief, no re-takes or edit, and only analogue technology, is always a pure joy. It never ceases to amaze us, the lengths that people go to and the raw creativity that comes back, year on year.”
