Remembering George Michael through his music videos. Here's 10 of his best...

George Michael became a massive pop star during the golden age of MTV. Was he a natural for the medium of music videos like Madonna or Michael Jackson? Not really. But, boy, did he work at it.

George was fascinated by the process of making music videos. He had a keen eye, and often took a firm control of proceedings in the edit suite. Acutely aware of the power of the medium, and hyper-sensitive about his own image, he became a self-declared 'control freak' about their production.

But on a number of levels, he was an innovator. He took the mainstream music video to places it hadn't been before - partly by removing hmself from them completely. They became an important medium for him to express his trenchant views on sex and politics. They were controversial, radical, sexy, entertaining.

Ultimately, it's simply the case that some of George Michael's music videos are completely synonymous with the music. And after the music itself, the best way to remember George Michael is through his music videos.

R.I.P. George.
