With fresh compositions and unique perspectives, the carefully executed vision pays off in bucketloads - it's possibly Bridges' best vid yet, and a perfect stage for his comeback. Standout work.

Music Video Preservation Society is returning to The Mildmay Club in Newington Green, North London on October for the Autumn meeting, on Friday, October 9th - and tickets are on sale now.Once again, there will be gems from 50 years of music video history on the big screen, curated and presented by Promonews editor David Knight, with special guests from the world of music videos to discuss and show their work.Some of the greatest British music video directors have been guests at the previous MVPS meetings in the main hall of The Mildmay Club this year: Dougal Wilson at the Winter edition in January; Dawn Shadforth in the Spring meeting in April; and DOM&NIC in the Summer show in July. So the aim is for more of the same at the Autumn meeting in October: another legend, another incredible body of work.And much more besides, including a look back 30 years to the music video landscape in 1996, with some well-known classics and less celebrated jewels from a heyday year for videos. ATARASHII GAKKO! return to the city that made them in Mackenzie Sheppard's new video for the idiosyncratic Japanese girl group - but miniaturised.In the new video for TTTTOKYO, the four members discover a magical gacha-gacha machine while exploring their home city. When they open the lid, they are suddenly shrunk to pocket-sized proportions and they set loose across Tokyo. Drawing on the playful scale shifts of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, the video turns familiar streets and everyday objects into an oversized playground. The group race through the city, break into tightly choreographed dances and interact with their surroundings as though Tokyo itself were their stage, prop and slightly bewildered scene partner.The contrast between their tiny physical presence and unmistakably outsized energy gives the film its central joke, while also reflecting the group’s own trajectory: four performers who began in Tokyo before growing into a global phenomenon.Mackenzie, alongside cinematographer Oliver Miller, used carefully matched camera positions, perspective and lighting to place the choreography naturally within each location, while shifts in lensing and depth exaggerate the city’s proportions. The craft remains deliberately visible in spirit rather than effect: tactile, mischievous and rooted in handmade magic.“I had this concept floating around in my mind for a few years, but had no song to fit it,” says Mackenzie. “When the AG members asked me for an idea, it immediately came to life."It was a lot more technically challenging than I thought! There is no use of AI or CGI. It’s all classic compositing with live-action plates of the girls, shot using a scale formula to make them fit perfectly within our fun exploration of Tokyo in miniature. I enjoyed every moment of making this with our fantastic team.”

Following his series of striking videos for TOMORA - Chemical Brothers' Tom Rowlands and Norwegian singer Aurora's side project - Adam Smith directs an epic and euphoric live performance for In A Minute, the closing track on their album Come Closer. The longtime collaborator with The Chemical Brothers on their live shows - from the legendary visuals (with Marcus Lyall) to Don't Think!, the film documenting their shows at Mount Fuji in 2010 - Smith is in familiar territory here and it shows.With the help of his regular collaborator Dan Lowe, as DoP and editor, he employs a tried-and-tested technique to achieve complete immersion in the music and the moment - overlapping two or more images, from two or more simultaneously shooting cameras - and works it to the max. For the full 10 minute length of the film, in fact.It's quite a trip. And for any Chemical Brothers' fans not yet convinced by Tom Rowland's new side project, this should win them over.

George Moore Chadwick's video for Birmingham singer-songwriter Joe Khalique-Brown's Junkspace is a riff on Spike Jonze's classic for Weezer's Undone - The Sweater Song. Although this time the video itself seems to be gradually falling apart.Chadwick's camera enters a studio where the crew are setting up the video shoot, with Khalique-Brown positioned in front of a simple bluescreen set-up, so he can be propelled into 'junkspace'.The singer proceeds to perform a couple of takes - although like the Weezer video, it's all achieved in a single steadicam shot - and things start to go horribly wrong.There are no dogs running amok in this one, but it's a neatly executed idea.
