A lo-fi Hitchcockian tale with Fifties styling - including back projections - with Birdeatsbaby's charismatic vocalist Mishkin as a pierced Tippi Hedren (and Phillippa as a heavy-smoking cleaning lady), nicely photographed by the versatile Steve Glashier. Philippa Bloomfield on making the video for Birdeatsbaby's I Always Hang Myself "I wanted to create a Hitchcock-esque feel to the video, drawing on stereotypes from that era, with the lead singer and the bass player as a bickering married couple and the other bandmates as sub characters, who appear as the storyline unfolds and eventually become involved in the husband's grizzly end. It all turned out to be a lot funnier than I originally intended, but I think that worked out for the better as the song itself is quite tongue-in-cheek. "The process was really important to me as I love to do everything by hand, and tend to shy away from doing too much in post or having special effects. So I used back projections instead of greenscreen for all the 'outside' scenes. I borrowed a really old projector off a friend - which by a happy accident made everything gorgeous shades of blue and green - and filmed the footage that was projected by strapping a camera to the back of a bicycle and wheeling it around the streets near where I live. "It was made on a budget of literally only about £50 and was shot on a Canon 5D."
