Das Pop’s Underground by Ollie Evans

Das Pop’s Underground by Ollie Evans

David Knight - 10th July 2008

Das Pop do infectious power-pop and, who knows, they could be yet another famous thing coming out of Belgium. Ollie Evans - back in indie mode, after a short spell as hip-hop-loving alter-ego Oliver Sudden - gives them a very cool, splendidly art-directed performance video.

There are also more mobiles than a Nokia ad, and some fake time-slice shot on the circular track around the band, to achieve what Ollie calls "an exploded view" - inspired by Turner Prize-winning artist Cornelia Parker's 'exploding shed' sculptures. "I wanted something abstract which would give continuity between these completely different-looking spots," says Ollie. "And the largest sculpture, the turquoise one, changed shape at different angles - which looks good on the circular track."
