Warren Fu channels epic Romantic art in his stunning, mesmeric&nbsp;video for Phoenix.The video for the iconic French rock band's Winter Solstice opens with vocalist Thomas Mars balancing on the edge of a cliff, performing under stormy skies - in the manner of a Caspar David Friedrich painting.Fu takes us through a series of related compositions from landscape&nbsp;to extreme close-up to accentuate the deeply reflective mood of the song and Mars's performance. Then the clouds part and reveal a whimsical menagerie of abstract graphics, in the style of early surrealism - and fireworks.[imgtoken data:1]With outstanding cinematography by UKMVA-nominee Christopher Ripley, the&nbsp;black and white visual treatment adds a&nbsp;dreamy sentimentality to the project, which culminates in a bittersweet ending that leaves plenty open to interpretation:&nbsp;Mars dives from his lonely&nbsp;peak, and as the video ends he is stiull floating freely in space.&nbsp;This is a wonderfully-crafted and evocative work - as you&nbsp;would expect from this hugely talented director and the effortlessly cool artist.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Julien Soulier, Luc Van Haver, Coralie Barbier and Paul Van Haver - aka Stromae -&nbsp;join forces to create a striking one-shot promo for the Belgian superstar's latest release L'enfer.&nbsp;Starting with an extreme close-up of Stromae's eye, the video pulls out to reveal the artist in the middle of a boundless&nbsp;studio setting.&nbsp;The track is delivered in a neutral fashion during the verses, but when the chorus comes crashing in, Van Haver jumps into action, intermittently glitching and cavorting around the space unabashedly.&nbsp;

Sophia Ray has directed the music video for Sigrid’s Burning Bridges, in which the Norwegian pop star takes extraordinary steps&nbsp;to break out of the twilight zone of a failed relationship.Stuck in an urban world of hyperreal drabness, with a boy she longer wants to be with, Sigrid breaks the metaphorical barriers she faces by&nbsp;smashing&nbsp;through physical ones - she actually runs through walls; crashing through&nbsp;from city to forest, and back again.It's a&nbsp;great vehicle&nbsp;for Sigrid's spirited personality and her natural athleticism - and arguably her best acting performance in a video. It's also a departure for Sophia Ray, who brings a more Scandi-influenced aesthetic to this than her other, more&nbsp;colourful pop work - there's even a nod to Swedish auteur Roy Andersson in there.[imgtoken data:1]&nbsp; &nbsp;The director, her producer Mayling Wong and DoP Carlos Feher filmed the video in Bulgaria with a local crew, including&nbsp;young art director&nbsp;Lyubika Georgieva - who created the walls that Sigrid could really run through..."It was fun to make this video," Sigrid has commented.&nbsp;"It’s a very emotional song so of course we needed a video that reflected that energy with running, dancing, and chasing. It was the first time I did some light acting which was very exciting and definitely something I want to do more."

Ali Kurr visualises a sexy Nineties fever dream in her video for Bree Runway's Little Nokia.&nbsp;With the song name-checking&nbsp;one of the most iconic - and indestructable - phones ever on the market, the promo sees Runway being interrupted by a&nbsp;Nokia 3310 every time she tries to get intimate with her man.&nbsp;Cutting to a grungy garage, a spiked mohican-sporting Bree hangs from the roof, before mounting a mechanical bull, artfully refashioned to&nbsp;resemble a giant Nokia. It's a feast of nostalgia with an edgy and dark undertone, and the reference to 1983 body horror Videodrome in the final scene is a perfect way to polish off the concept.&nbsp;Strikingly shot by DoP&nbsp;Amelia Hazlerigg, the aesthetic is perfectly balanced between commercial and quirky, with just a touch of creepy to keep viewers on their toes.&nbsp;“For this video I wanted to pay homage to the MTV greats," says Kurr, "But blend and package them together so it feels totally fresh and unique.” Job done.
