BUG 15: Ill Ease’s Here Comes Trouble by George Wu

The story of a young man's descent through a succession of dead-end jobs, in peg form, for the Brooklyn artist Ill Ease (aka Elizabeth Sharp) by London-based graphic designer and filmmaker George Wu.

The story of a young man's descent through a succession of dead-end jobs, in peg form, for the Brooklyn artist Ill Ease (aka Elizabeth Sharp) by London-based graphic designer and filmmaker George Wu. George's previous films have included a BBC New Music Shorts winner and, as half of Boo Wu with musician Bonnie Carr, a finalist in the 2008 Jerwood Moving Image awards 2008. And having designed the cover for the special 7" single release of Here Comes Trouble, George was inspired by legendary designers Charles and Ray Eames's classic Nonsense Machine to make her own. Before she got round to making the video she was commissioned to make an electronic version she called The Animatic as an art installation. The contraption she's made for Here Comes Trouble is rather more basic, substituting wood and string for the electronics. But George still manages to tell an absorbing, downbeat yet uplifting story. A uniquely handmade, utterly marvellous video.
