BUG 10: Radiohead’s Weird Fishes/Arpeggi by Tobias Stretch

BUG 10: Radiohead’s Weird Fishes/Arpeggi by Tobias Stretch

David Knight - 9th Dec 2008

Earlier this year animation website Aniboom's In Rainbows music video contest invited animators to make a video for a track from Radiohead's current album. That attracted a huge number of entries, unsurprisingly, and consequently, a lot of completed films. Tobias Stretch's remarkable film for Weird Fishes/Arpeggi won $10K as one of four grand prize winners (having originally been rejected at the treatment stage), and it's not hard to see why.

Tobias has made films with his amazing sculpture-puppets in the beautiful surrounding of the Appalachian mountains before - his video for Efterklang featured at BUG 08. But Weird Fishes/Arpeggi is his tour de force: amazing, beautifully-made characters, shot with great invention in a stunning setting. Five and a half months in the making, Tobias did everything himself - from building the puppets, to including custom-building devices to achieve the tracking shots. An amazing achievement from a uniquely talented animator - and Tobias is now signed to Red Lion Films in London.
