Courts 'True Say' by Harry Barber

Luke Bather - 30th June 2017

Harry Barber directs a vibrant, energetic portrait of a band at home in this candid clip for Courts.

Conceived and shot in an impossibly small amount of time, the video follows Courts in their childhood home of Basildon and cuts between performance and more candid shots of the band and their friends in their territory.

Brimming with the urgency that comes from just being excited about an idea and shooting it, there's a spontaneous energy and an earnestness to the video that you couldn't replicate with any amount of planning.

HARRY BARBER:

"It was one of those things that kind of just fell into place. I’d met with Aaron (DOP) a few days before and we had one of those 'yeah, we should just go shoot something' conversations, as you do. I’m still not sure he was expecting the call so soon after, but a few days later the band called me about the track and within 24 hours, Aaron was on the train to Basildon and we were shooting. We shot everything in one day (sorry Aaron) and the majority of the budget went on crisps, petrol station sandwiches and booze at The Castle Mayne.

"Massive shout to Jack (edit) and Tim (grade) who both completely got the vibe we were going for and totally nailed it. As I said, everything just fell into place and we had a lot of fun making this film."
