They have been making great videos for decades, and arguably&nbsp;the greatest music video band of all time. No pressure then, for Rich Hall, to direct a worthy addition to the great canon of work for Depeche Mode. But he has risen to the challenge.For People Are Good, the latest single from the latest album Memento Mori, the Riff Raff Films-based director&nbsp;has faced down the weight of 40-plus years of Depeche Mode music video history, with a promo which nods to the visual style that has become their hallmark, while establishing its own heartfelt identity.Combining stylishness, brilliant film craft with a considered&nbsp;exposition of the theme of the song, Hall has created a series of intensely dramatic vignettes, shot in black and white by DoP Martin Ruhe, in a heightened cinematic, dreamlike reality.[imgtoken data:1]In each one we are confronted with a seeming act&nbsp;of wrongdoing or human frailty - expressed in the human pile-up of a riot, a woman digging a grave, a confrontation of&nbsp;macho gang bosses, and so on - each taking palce in front of a white wall. Then the true reality in each situation is gradually revealed. It's a counterpoint to Dave Gahan's somewhat ambivalent vocals for People Are Good.&nbsp;The video&nbsp;is evocative and bold, exploring the complex nature of human beings in a unique and distinctive way. And it really is a worthy addition to the pantheon - all the more impressive for the short amount of time that Rich Hall and his team had for pre-production and the shoot itself.[imgtoken data:2]“It’s equal parts an honour and daunting when making a video for Depeche Mode," says Hall. "Not only do they have music video royalty behind them, but even Riff Raff have churned out some outstanding videos themselves for the band in recent times (Personal Jesus, Wagging Tongue). Throw a world class DoP like Martin Ruhe into the mix, 8 days prep and 1 shoot day then you’ve got a real mind f***."I wanted to make an idea that changes multiple times during the video, as if unravelling with the song and our understanding of it. The song reminded me of the fragility of human relationships, how easy we forget, how easily we’re misled. So, I came up with the idea to somehow immortalize those every day, human interactions, in front of a white wall and heighten them to the extent that they feel like art (well, sort of)."It wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support of Riff Raff, Black Kite, and the good people at Columbia US. Not to mention the amazing crew, especially the ones who were unloading dirt into a fake grave at midnight - you know who you are.”&nbsp;

Rich Hall puts indie band Elephant Kind on an intergalactic tube train chockful of aliens - in his superb video for Love As.The production team at Riff Raff&nbsp;says: "Possibly the most extreme recce we’ve done in a while, was to the Moon and back. Rich Hall wanted to set Elephant Kind’s video there, so we popped over to get the vibe. But the train on the way back to Earth was just so packed with characters, it was like a casting director’s hallway. So Rich said f*** it, let’s just shoot it now."The DoP decided zero-gravity worked in favour of a spinning train carriage shot, and the producer agreed to pay travel expenses for being outside the M25, only because they’d save on camera kit by using alien drool to a dolly effect."So the band warmed up, and busted out their single ‘Love As’. Henry Scholfield gets back together with Dua Lipa for a kind of sequel to the MVA-winning, near-billion viewed global smash New Rules.&nbsp;Once again Scholfield visualises the singer&#39;s internal argument with a consummate display of choreography and camera trickery. And this time there are, appropriately, two Duas. There&#39;s the stronger defiant Dua and her softer confused counterpart, figuring out how to deal with a lingering ex. And both are flanked by mirror-imaged dance squads.The constantly moving camera brilliantly merges the two groups, in a video that Scholfield conceptualised with Moseart - that&#39;s Paul &lsquo;Stromae&rsquo; Van Haver and his creative director Luc Junior Tam.&nbsp;&ldquo;I wanted the conflict between Dua&rsquo;s two alter-egos to become an emotional exchange in their movement,&quot; says Scholfield.&nbsp;&quot;I had the chance to work with the fantastic Marion Motin, to create a choreography that is something you sense/feel rather than just watch. Dua and I devised a way to make her two alter egos opposing, and she did an amazing job at personifying them in her performance, without missing a step... literally.&ldquo;For the concept, we wanted to embody the sense of empowerment in the track, whilst going beyond the literal breakup context. A visual of the internal struggle, showing the two sides of Dua&rsquo;s emotive state, like an argument with someone you love. The strong Dua at first berating then eventually persuading her weaker alter ego that they both don&rsquo;t give a f***.&rdquo;

Genre-blending Texas funk Trio Khruangbin have released this&nbsp;beautifully&nbsp;cinematic, Tarantino-inspired&nbsp;short&nbsp;for Two Fish And An Elephant.Largely financed by fans through crowd-funding website Kickstarter, the video&nbsp;follows Two Fish, a bow-and-arrow wielding young woman&nbsp;as she can&#39;t help but&nbsp;return&nbsp;to the scene of a massacre she has just committed. Led by&nbsp;a string around her finger, she walks back through the piles of bodies until she is standing in front of&nbsp;the Elephant, managing to find peace and closure&nbsp;with&nbsp;one last dance.Good friend of the band, Scott Dungate, made this strong&nbsp;directorial debut in collaboration with Somesuch and Wieden+Kennedy, with additional support from The Mill post production, Trim editing and Factory sound design all contributing time and resource to make the video possible.

Oliver Hadlee Pearch continues his acclaimed series of music videos for Jungle&nbsp;that follow a distinctive theme... First there was the precocious kid in Platoon, then the roller-skating brothers in The Heat, then the diverse troupe in <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/videos/2014/04/03/jungle-busy-earnin-jlw-oliver-hadlee-pearch" target="_blank">Busy Earnin&#39;</a>...But now it&#39;s a couple of older guys&nbsp;to show the youngsters how its done. Suitably for the song called Time, two gents of the old school - Brett Jones and Earth G - are moved by Jungle&#39;s&nbsp;funk to show off their moves, in the deserted East End boxing arena York Hall.&nbsp;Joyful, uplifting stuff - with excellent choreography by the in-demand Holly Blakey.

Part four of what has become an epic, and quite possibly unprecedented series of music videos for Plan B by Daniel Wolfe. 
After Stay Too Long, She Says and Prayin', expectations for The Recluse could hardly be higher. But it delivers - and then turns it up another notch. 
This one is actually for a song that comes before Prayin' in the concept/story album that is The Defamation of Strickland Banks, but Dan and Ben Drew/Plan B have seized the opportunity to fill in the gaps with a dual narrative structure - after he enters jail for the crime he didn't commit, and flashbacks to the period when still free. 
It's great work, and Drew arguably gives his best acting performance yet. And taken with the rest... what an achievement - by everyone who's been involved in making them.

After <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/2009/12/14/plan-b's-stay-too-long-by-daniel-wolfe/" target="_blank">Stay Too Long</a> and <a href="http://www.promonews.tv/2010/02/19/plan-b's-she-said-by-daniel-wolfe/" target="_blank">She Said</a> the third part of Plan B/Ben Drew and Daniel Wolfe&#39;s Strickland Banks trilogy brings it all together - and is arguably the most impressive of the lot.Following on from the courtroom drama-musical of She Said, Prayin&#39; finds the South London rapper slung in jail. It&#39;s brutal and frightening, grittily real - but also shifts, quite brilliantly, to moments of fantasy.Ben Drew does, of course, have acting chops, having worked with Michael Caine on Harry Brown, and he gives another sterling performance here. But what an achievement by Daniel Wolfe. This stands alone as a great video, but it&#39;s also the finale to a genuinely coherent music video trilogy. That was always hard to do, even in the &#39;good old days&#39;.
