Mónica G. Carter directs a blue-hued Nineties-influenced promo for up and coming R&amp;B&nbsp;singer Essosa.Successfully channelling the classic Hype Williams style in his music video directing pomp, the video for Waste My Time lives in an anachronistic space, blending retrofuturism with thrilling dance sequences, and centred around Essosa's absorbing performance. And the director says it was her intention for the video to feel timeless.[imgtoken data:1]"I took inspiration from late 90s / early 2000s R&amp;B/pop videos and mixed in a modern-minimalistic-futuristic feel," says Carter. "I wanted to make the viewer feel like they were traveling in time but not knowing whether they were traveling backwards or forwards: nostalgia colliding with avant-guard."We didn’t shy away from simplicity, on the contrary we leaned into it, ensuring that each department collaborated together to create something that felt uniform and exciting: From the cinematography, to the art design (betting on the monochromatic blue colour pallet), to the amazing choreography/ performance. I wanted to give the audience space to meditate, to feel Essosa’s captivating music."

Ed Sheeran is at one with the elements,&nbsp;in Mia Barne's touching&nbsp;promo for Boat.&nbsp;We see Sheeran performing in the middle of the sea, battling a tirade of incoming waves as he works to keep his footing.Before long, various objects get caught up in the water, including broken records, teddy bears and stationery.&nbsp;The cinematography is surprisingly intimate and conversational throughout - with Sheeran's eyeline always down the lens and the camera up close and personal, it feels as if he is pouring his heart out to a friend, and it makes for a beautiful visual.&nbsp;It's the perfect track for a stripped back yet perfectly executed promo, and Barnes brings it to life with an emotional yet still playful concept.&nbsp;

Mia Barnes directs a heartfelt promo for Ed Sheeran's Eyes Closed - the first release from forthcoming album Subtract.&nbsp;Hanging out at a bar with only a few strangers for company, the video opens with Ed drinking away his sorrows, attempting to bury an unhappiness lurking within him.&nbsp;Before long, he begins to see a giant, fuzzy blue monster - a representation of the sadness that he carries around with him. And it starts to shadow&nbsp;him everywhere he goes.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]The portrayal of such emotions as a rather loveable furry creature perhaps suggests&nbsp;that when you hold&nbsp;onto negative emotions for so long, they almost become comfortable and familiar, adding a layer of meaning to the poignant visual. But of course it's also a very astute way of portraying a negative emotion within the recognisable Sheeran universe.It's a true feat of visual effects,&nbsp;not only with the main monster design but for&nbsp;several other characters with their own emotional creatures, and Ed's stirring performance is the glue that binds the dreamlike, tender promo together.&nbsp;

Troy Roscoe teams up with KSI for another ambitious collaboration, with the video for Summer Is Over.&nbsp;The slick visual sees KSI at an end-of-summer barbecue, moving around the scene and performing as the other guests celebrate in slow motion.&nbsp;VFX-heavy yet completely seamless - even with scattered showers, grey skies and&nbsp;various liquids and textures to contend with&nbsp;- it's a brilliant concept executed to perfection.&nbsp;"Hands down one of the hardest shoots I’ve had to date," Roscoe says. "Anyone that is either edit or visual effects savvy will be able to appreciate the complexity of the concept."On paper it's simple: KSI walking through scenes performing whilst everybody is in slow motion. But actually executing that with typical British weather as a factor, proved far from simple. But we pulled it off!&nbsp;"We shot the video on Monday and was complete by the Friday! I’m so proud of my team and the hard work that went into it and as always KSI is a pleasure to work with."

The director's approach gels nicely with the light-hearted tone of the collaboration between two of the UK's biggest pop stars.And he gets sterling support from the production design by&nbsp;Tilda Bonham Carter, styling by Cora Delaney and Justin Rose, and the casting of Aitch's numerous other girlfriends.[imgtoken data:1]"The idea of the video was to empower anyone who has been in Anne-Marie’s position before," says Douek. A man has some painful memories reconfigured in Elliot Simpson's promo for Joel Corry and Becky Hills.&nbsp;In the same faux-utopic vein as previous&nbsp;collabs <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2021/11/11/joel-corry-ft-mabel-i-wish-elliot-simpson/73789">I Wish&nbsp;</a>and <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2021/03/11/joel-corry-x-raye-x-david-guetta-bed-elliot-simpson/69885">Bed</a>, the sci-fi concept in History proposes a world in which memories can be altered and 'put right', via a personal home visit from Joel,&nbsp;Becky and their futuristic arsenal of gadgets.&nbsp;The narrative perfectly blends the borders of surrealism and reality, and gives the artists a chance to flex their acting muscles in addition to some very filmic performance setups.&nbsp;Seamless and slick, the video is equal parts Black Mirror and pop promo, and is a real visual treat.&nbsp;
