Warren Fu&#39;s second video for The 1975 sees&nbsp;Matty Healy living out his worst live performance nightmares, which makes for a smartly entertaining visual for It&#39;s Not Living (If It&#39;s Not With You).First of all, Matty&#39;s clean-cut and wearing a suit. That can&#39;t be right for a start. And then when he&#39;s on stage, with his breezily jogging bandmates, a succession of&nbsp;surreal things start happening.&nbsp;The really clever bit is when the hugely distracted Matty leaves the stage, goes through a door and ends up on the set of his last Fu-directed video for <a href="https://www.promonews.tv/videos/2018/11/23/1975-sincerity-scary-warren-fu/56222" target="_blank">Sincerity Is Scary</a>. A clever meta-textual touch.&nbsp;And with the original idea coming from Healy himself - even if its possibly inspired by Alice In Wonderland -&nbsp;is there a more&nbsp;creative&nbsp;pop star in the UK right now?&nbsp;

The 1975 'It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)' by Warren Fu 

MØ takes to life on the ocean wave, with Diplo and&nbsp;other pals, in David M Helman&#39;s video for Sun In Our Eyes.&nbsp;Helman&#39;s video&nbsp;takes a romantic idea - a group of friends sailing away to create their own perfect world on distant shores - and then grounds it in a more realistic dramatic setting, with the group being transported&nbsp;on a distinctly unromantic, working trawler.&nbsp;But there is also a sense of serenity, and the setting entirely suited to&nbsp;MØ&#39;s unfussy&nbsp;personality.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&ldquo;Sun In Our Eyes&nbsp;is a love song - it circles the subject of being unwilling to accept the truth,&quot; she says. &quot;You wanna keep riding the high even though you deep down know it might be wrong and that it&rsquo;s all a self-made illusion. This theme is what the video is inspired by, and it is also one of the subjects my forthcoming album Forever Neverland is dealing with.&quot;

Oliver Jennings&rsquo;s prolific run of music videos since he joined Partizan a few months ago&nbsp;continues with this gritty, fast-paced portrait of&nbsp;a group of young Londoners as they prepare to get into Lovebox Festival in East London by unconventional means, to watch Chase &amp; Status&#39;s headlining show.&nbsp;Their pre-festival rituals are combined with footage from the&nbsp;set, where guest vocalist Emeli Sandé performed the track Love Me More. And as with his previous work, Jennings&#39; combines energy and atmosphere with authenticity, and blends story, real life and a real concert into a very satisfying whole.

Book-ended by an Alfred Hitchcock presentation, Jamie-James Medina plays with 90 degree camera angles in this hugely-watchable promo for King Krule&#39;s A Lizard State.Deliciously and authentically retro, Medina&#39;s simple living room set-up, Tim Sidell&#39;s photography and Archy Marshall&#39;s (King Krule) driven performance&nbsp;keep the viewer transfixed...&nbsp;Jamie-James Medina talks to Luke Tierney about making the video for King Krule&#39;s A Lizard StateLT: Having previously worked with King Krule, was it always the plan to work together again?J-JM: I guess so, for me it definitely was. If I&#39;m not filming Archy and King Krule, I might be taking photos and working with his label, so I love being involved. I just knew it would be fun cutting to A Lizard State. I always wanted to do that video.With the possibility some young people, fans of King Krule, won&#39;t know too much about Alfred Hitchcock, were you worried the cultural reference could be lost?Nah, I don&#39;t think we worried about that at all. Archy and I are Hitchcock fans and thats all we thought about. There were two Hitchcock biopics in 2012 and he&#39;s still a huge part entertainment and culture. Vertigo replaced Citizen Kane as the greatest film of all time in BFI&#39;s list of the best movies. And musically, King Krule&#39;s references reach way back sometimes, so I just have to assume that people get it.Where and how did you come across such fascinating footage?The Alfred Hitchcock Presents series is so great. I watch that show all the time when I travel. Cinema looked down on TV back then and there is this suggestion that Hitchcock was kinda slumming it with a television show, but every episode is brilliant. And his intros are just so good. You could take any intro from any episode to set up a music video and it would work. And I love that format of intro and outros for shows like&nbsp;Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Twilight Zone, so I wanted to work with that idea.Did you recreate the illusion effect?We did, we built the set from scratch to match the original footage. And the set had to move from upright, with the camera tilted, to laying flat to get the dolly shots.Your portrayal of King Krule is not that of a gawky teenager, very different from your previous portrayal in &#39;The Noose of Jah City&#39;, was that your aim?I didn&#39;t really think about that - he just grew up naturally. And the suits are a part of his live show, so maybe Archy was thinking about that.&nbsp;Having photographed stars such as Lady Gaga, Jay Z, and Kanye West, do you feel that being a professional photographer affects you as a director?A little bit, yeah - just in my personal experience. I&#39;ve worked as an editorial photographer for 10 years and you&#39;re searching for THE SHOT. A great moment or a great portrait.&nbsp;But with video, a narrative has to unfold and build over time and move through acts&nbsp;and that&#39;s something I&nbsp;learned on the job. So many photographers are moving from still images into film (out of necessity), but it&#39;s such a different medium.&nbsp;And for me photography is a very singular act - I take the photo. From start to finish everything about André Chocron&#39;s video for London Grammar&#39;s Nightcall&nbsp;is simply dreamy. The premise is loose and languid, seamlessly shifting the focus from the stripped-back band to their surroundings - a misty&nbsp;field, shot at night and spot-lit, where the camera sweeps across in one continuous move taking in a girl on a swing, a man outside his car, a woman in an trailer, a group o fkids around a fire - and beautiful horses, that dramatically bolt across the field. This looks real, and unreal.It&#39;s André&#39;s first UK video, through his London base FRIEND (he&#39;s with&nbsp;LEGS&nbsp;in the US, U-MAN&nbsp;in France&nbsp;and Motion Blur in Scandinavia and his own Frokost Film at home in&nbsp;Norway) and it comes following the success of his remarkable&nbsp;video for&nbsp;<a href="http://vimeo.com/58879954">&#39;My Recurring Dream&#39;</a>, nominated at this year&#39;s UK Music Video Awards, and picking up honours all over the place. Like that tour de force, the Nightcall video demonstrates André Chocron&#39;s command&nbsp;of&nbsp;on-set camera&nbsp;effects - in this case motion control - to jawdropping effect.&nbsp;We caught up with André&nbsp;to find out more about the London Grammar video:&nbsp;where and how they shot the promo, the merits of working with horses &ndash; and why he prefers a concept over a plot.PROMO NEWS: What a great project for a UK debut, how did it come about?André&nbsp;Chocron: For a while now I&rsquo;ve really wanted to shoot a one-shot promo with motion control, and finally had the opportunity on this one. We all liked the idea of having the band performing in a barren field after dark, while slightly surreal elements and situations appear around them. However it was only when <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregory_Crewdson" target="_blank">Greg Crewdson</a>&rsquo;s work came up as a reference that the visual concept fell into place.It&#39;s hard to tell, but&nbsp;were you shooting inside&nbsp;or outside,&nbsp;or&nbsp;both?It was all filmed in one exterior location at a big horse ranch outside of London. In the edit I was surprised how much it feels like a studio, I really like that. DoP Jake Scott did an amazing job lighting this, I had never imagined such a dreamlike ambience.The horses bolting creates an incredibly powerful moment in the video. Was it hard to control, was it intentional that one horse led the others?The horses were even better than I had dreamed of. The guy who owned the location turned out to be a horse stuntman, so the horses were actually pros. They ran on cue on every take, always with one in front leading the others.Is there a loose storyline to follow or do you feel everyone can interpret their own story?Not really a storyline, but definitely a theme of loneliness, a static existence, and breaking free from that.What was it like working with FRIEND?It was fantastic! They&rsquo;ve sent me a lot of tracks to treat on, and I was never available, so it was great that we finally got to work together. Both the shoot and post production turned out to be really complicated, and they did such a great job pushing for the best result possible.Creatively you are always pushing forward, trying new things, do you think creativity will always be the main driving force behind your work?&nbsp;I certainly hope so. I love experimenting with new techniques and styles, trying out stuff I haven&rsquo;t done before. When I get an idea for a film, the concept always comes first, often quite technical. This was a challenge when I worked with narrative shorts, because I had to force a plot into the concept, a lot of people seem to think it should be the other way around.
