Austin Peters brings his Major Lazer film 'Give Me Future' to Sheffield Doc/Fest and London

David Knight - 13th June 2017

Give Me Future, Austin Peters' acclaimed film documenting Major Lazer's landmark concert in Cuba last year, is being screened for the first time in the UK this week at Sheffield Doc/Fest, and in a private screening at MPC in London on Thursday.

Originally premiered at Sundance in January, Give Me Future is a feature-length documentary  following the pivotal moment when electronic dancehall megaband Major Lazer took a free concert to downtown Havana, Cuba - where no American band at the height of their fame had previously been allowed to perform.

In what began as a concert film intended to document this groundbreaking event, Peters turns the camera on a burgeoning youth movement in Cuba, fusing exhilarating performance footage with authentic stories of cultural and political shifts in a country on the edge of change. It has been described as "a remarkably dense portrait of a place and a moment." (The Verge).

Give Me Future is screening at the 2017 Sheffield Doc/Fest tomorrow, Wednesday 14th June, at Bertha DocHouse at midday.

There is also a private screening of the film at MPC in Wardour Street, London on Thursday 15th June at 6.30pm, followed by a Q&A, as part of MPC and Beak Street Bugle's monthly showcase The Big Screen, in association with Peters' production company home in London, Forever Pictures. To apply for tickets to this screening and Q&A, or RSVP an invitation to the event, email switchboard@forever-pictures.com.
