Straight 8 launches for 2017 with limited spaces

David Knight - 15th Feb 2017

Straight 8, the celebrated Super 8mm film competition that's been running since 1999, launches it's 2017 competition today (February 15th) at 8pm (GMT) with entry strictly limited to 150 places.

As always, Straight 8's unique all-in-camera rules requires entrants to make a short film on a single cartridge of Super 8mm film, then submit the film delivered exactly as it was shot - no retakes, no editing, no post-production. Then the first time that the selected filmmakers see their own film is at the Straight 8 premiere - taking place as usual during the Cannes Film Festival, in May 2017.

The 2017 jury will include will include Oscar® winning director, writer and producer Asif Kapadia (Senna, Amy), film critic and author Jason Solomons, and editor Justine Wright (Locke, Last King of Scotland, Touching the Void) - Justine was one of the 22 people to make a film for the inaugural competition in 1999.

This year entry is limited to the first 150 people who enter the competition – find terms and details of entry at straight8.net/enter – or until 28th February. Soundtracks must be original and uploaded separately. Finished films need to be delivered, exposed but undeveloped to Cinelab London by 28th March.
