Carrie Sutton starts new director rep venture - featuring HSI London and Kode Media directors

David Knight - 12th Aug 2014

Carrie Sutton, one of the most long-established and respected figures in UK music videos, is now establishing a new director's representation venture, adding directors from Kode Media to her existing roster of directors from HSI London.

For the past 10 years at HSI London, Carrie has represented internationally acclaimed directors such as David LaChapelle, Jamie Thraves, and Joseph Kahn, and has been involved in the signing and career development of Yoann Lemoine, Diamond Dogs, Jim Canty, Douglas Hart, Ben Reed, Chino Moya and Rob Chiu, amongst others.

Now Carrie is adding Kode Media directors Daniel Broadley, David Barr, Duncan Roe, Frederick Lloyd, Harry Cauty,  Jack Bowden, Jamie Muir, LJ Scott, Mike Lee Thomas, Rollo and Stuart Birchall to her roster.

And this is Carrie's first independent directing venture in a career in music videos spanning over two decades. Carrie has been a producer, head of music video, in-house and freelance commissioner and director's rep - and won a Best Video CAD for commissioning Blur's Coffee & TV video directed by Hammer & Tongs (above, from right, Garth Jennings, Dom Leung, Nick Goldsmith, and Carrie).

Carrie worked in production in the 1990s mainly at Propaganda and Satellite (home to David Fincher, Mark Romanek, Michael Bay, Nigel Dick, Spike Jonze, Stephane Sednaoui, to name a few) and Kudos - where she signed up and coming directors Jake Nava and Jeff Thomas as head of video.

As in-house commissioner at Chrysalis Records, Carrie worked with artists such as Belinda Carlisle, Simple Minds, World Party, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and oversaw the launch into music video of Take That escapee Robbie Williams.

On leaving Chrysalis in 1998, Carrie continued to work with Williams – and 16 years and 3 Best Video Brit Awards later she still does. Freelance commissioning has seen Carrie working with Blur, Pet Shop Boys, Travis, Tina Turner, Snow Patrol, Goldfrapp (winning a D&AD Yellow Pencil for “Happiness”) and the co-commission with Ross Anderson of Take That’s album “Progress”.

Carrie continues to work as a freelance video commissioner – she is presently working with Kaiser Chiefs - alongside her new directing representation venture with the rosters of HSI and Kode Media.

“I am beyond thrilled to work with both these rosters," she says. "HSI London is family and, as well as the established directors, I am excited about the blossoming careers of directors such as Rob Chiu and Chino Moya.   Alongside this, Kode Media is a young company bursting with enthusiasm and energy with a roster ripe for further development. They have already been awarded a Cannes Lion and Kerrang Music Video of the Year. Their passion for film-making is infectious.”

Carrie Sutton can now be contacted on carrie@carriesutton.co.uk. Her new website is coming soon at www.carriesutton.co.uk.
