The video for Manchester Orchestra's Simple Math directed by young directing team Daniel Scheinart and Dan Kwan - aka Daniels - won Video of the Year at the UK Music Video Awards 2011 last night in London, at a glamourous, boisterous, sometimes emotional ceremony hosted by Adam Buxton. Ross Anderson won Best Commissioner for the second year in succession at the MVAs - as did Tim Francis with the Best Producer prize. And a large and often noisy French presence in the audience - reflecting the large number of nominations for French videos in the international best video and other categories - were rewarded with several honours. Tom Townend won the Best Cinematography award for his work on Adele's Rolling In The Deep, Sam Brown's video that also won the prestigious Best Pop Video UK award. The People's Choice Award - decided by thousands of votes on VEVO - went to Syndrome's video for JLS's Eyes Wide Shut. Dan Millar from Sony collected the award, and Syndrome sent a charming video message. Having come over from the US to attend the ceremony, Daniels collected the Best Indie/Rock International Award for Manchester Orchestra's Simple Math, earlier in the show - and then they appeared overwhelmed to win the biggest award of the evening for their extraordinary tour de force of emotional narrative and special effects. Jonas Akerlund accepted the Icon Award from Nick Rhodes and Simon Le Bon, following a film that replayed some of this greatest work for Madonna, Lady Gaga, U2, The Prodigy and many more - and included special messages from Rammstein and Iggy Pop. In a heartfelt speech on accepting the award from WIZ, Barry thanked all the "film warriors" he'd worked with over the years, and told the assembled members of the music video-making community that their work not only had the power to entertain, but to change people's lives. All the winners here Guardian UK MVA winners on VEVO
