Palma Violets ‘Step Up For The Cool Cats’ by Douglas Hart
Thursday, 24. January 2013 - 6:44 pm
Confectionary-referencing Bristol outfit Palma Violets are a very cool new band, so it comes as no surprise they should hook up with Douglas Hart for their Step Up For Cool Cats video. Doug is one of the original cool dudes, who was recently the subject of a sold out retrospective at the ICA in London as part of the London Short Film Festival, where some of his iconic videos (My Bloody Valentine, Libertines, Paul Weller, The Horrors, etc) and his acclaimed 2012 short Long Distance Information, starring Peter Mullan, were screened.
The Palma Violets video features a Ford Capri, the band performing in their beloved studio in Lambeth, and some serious video distortion courtesy of some very large magnets, used in post. Classic image-messing from Doug… the result is very cool.
Meanwhile Long Distance Information continues to be a film festival favourite – it’s been touring in ‘The Joy Of Six’, which has been described as a “carefully curated stellar package of short films”…
