Zee Avi ‘Concrete Wall’ by Jason Baum
Wednesday, 2. January 2013 - 5:36 pm
Jason Baum’s video for Zee Avi’s Concrete Wall takes place in an impressive space, thanks at least in part to Concrete Wall, a Norwegian design outfit that create ‘concrete’ wallpapers. These provides the backdrop for a performance where Zee starts, statue-like, on a plinth, then multiplies via motion control.
“The inspiration behind the video was pretty obvious,” says Jason. “However, I really wanted to take the simple visual hook and create this phantasmic, yet realistic space, where you could see Zee living out the opposing forces in her concrete mind. The song makes me feel claustrophobic and I really wanted this ‘grey matter’ room where she could give a multi faceted performance — a little A.D.D., some childlike innocence, and a deep well of emotion.”
