Shot on Location in East Aurora New York, Brooklyn duo Slam Donahue join forces with Michael Lawrence and Alex Amoling for this sporty, high-jinx promo set in a school gymnasium which sees the band take part in a basketball game. The action then moves to a house party with the lads getting a bit yummy with the mummies…
“When we first spoke to the Slam Donahue guys about doing a video, they gave us some background on the over-arching themes in the album – dealing with growing up, societal expectations, and the relationship between children and adults” explains Michael. “Tom and Dave both wanted to be in the video, and to place themselves deep in this world. Will (Griggs) at Cantora came up with the idea to place this all within a kid’s basketball game; the band had sent over a picture of a middle-school sports team, set amidst a shining trophy case.
“It was a bit challenging to direct a large gymnasium of children with only a few hours to shoot, but we embraced the documentary aesthetic and quite simply let the game play out, rolling our cameras. The concept evolved to include sexy mothers at a wrap party, a whirlpool bathtub, and some pretty amazing custom jerseys created by our art director, Kelly Thomas.
“What’s seemingly an underdog sports story, becomes a character-driven absurdist journey with Dave & Tom as they hang with the generations”.
