Jake Bugg ‘Two Fingers’ (Director’s Cut) by Jamie Thraves

Jamie Thraves’s first work at his new production company base HSI London is a superb video for Jake Bugg’s Two Fingers.

A bright and breezy portrait of the (very) young troubadour and his mates in his home neighbourhood of Clifton in Nottingham, is suddenly tempered by a dramatic sequence of Jake’s volatile, alcoholic homelife – featuring his mum, played by Vicky McClure (This Is England, A Room For Romeo Brass) and her boyfriend (Craig Parkinson – Control, Four Lions).

But it’s not predictable grittiness either. This is a transfixing spectacle of unpredictable, boozed-up behaviour, where anything might happen at any moment – including something funny. It’s exactly what makes Jamie Thraves one of the UK’s best directors.
