Thursday, 5. July 2012 - 3:00 pm

There are 11 more days to enter James Brown – A Music Video Challenge, which invites aspiring music video directors to create a video for one of four classic songs from the Godfather Of Soul.

Their entry could win them prize money (now US$4,000 for a winning entry), become the official video for the track, and give them the chance to work with Saatchi & Saatchi on one of their global advertising campaigns.

The four iconic James Brown tracks can be accessed at the competition page at Genero.tv. They are:

It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World
The impassioned ballad that hit #1 on Billboard’s R&B chart in 1966. It ranks #123 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and formed the basis for Alicia Keys’ breakthrough hit Fallin.

Sex Machine (Pt 1)
The first recording with his new band formed in 1970 that featured 19-year-old Bootsy Collins and his brother Catfish. An instantly recognizable funk classic, it is #326 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Try Me (Live at the Apollo)
A #1 hit in 1959 and a staple of his live show. This version is from the first legendary Live at the Apollo album, ranked among the greatest of all time by just about everyone and recorded 50 years ago.

Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag (Part 1)
One of his signature songs marking the beginning of funk. It hit #1 on the R&B chart and stayed there for 2 months in 1965, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999, and is now #71 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

In order to enter the competition, filmmakers must join Genero, then read the competition rules, buy their chosen track on iTunes, then make their video and upload it to Genero.tv before the deadline: The deadline for entry is on Monday, July 16th at 11.59pm GMT.

James Brown – A Music Video Challenge is organised by Saatchi & Saatchi, BUG, Genero.tv and Universal Music. Judges of the competition will include members of the BUG team, and directors selected for this year’s Saatchi & Saatchi New Director’s Showcase, recently held in Cannes. 12 finalists will be revealed around 20th July and the winner will be announced on 30th July.
