My Robot Friend ‘Goodbye’ by MakeMake Studio

A lovely animated video for NYC band My Robot Friend’s Goodbye by designer/illustrators Chris Tozer and Liam Stevens – together known as MakeMake Studio – featuring a man who finds himself naked on a raft, piecing together his past and attempting to plot a course to safe ground. And there’s a poignant sting in the tale.
“We wanted a 2D look but in a 3D world so it was animated in Cinema 4D but textured in After Effects so that the textures are always flat,” explains Chris Tozer. “This turned out to be more complicated than we envisioned (using object buffers, nulls and expressions). We don’t know of any examples that have used this texture technique before, but we got there in the end.”
