Jake Bugg ‘Trouble Town’ by Michael Holyk

This simple but effective introduction to young singer-songwriter Jake Bugg by Michael Holyk frames Jake in Clifton, Nottingham – his hometown – mixing HD footage with Super 8mm. It creates a lovely contrast, and Michael confirms they didn’t fake it.
“The Super 8 footage really brought to life to elements we wanted, and got the look gritty feel immediately,” he says. “That’s something I feel you have to do on film rather than try to achieve in post. Though I wasn’t comfortable not being able to watch back the film until a couple of weeks later…”
