BUG 19: Colourmusic’s Yes! by Nick Turner

Thursday, 10. June 2010 - 6:24 pm

The video for Stillwater, OK-based indie-rockers Colourmusic’s track Yes! was actually made towards the end of last year as part of the Oklahoma Creativity Project. The band needed a video to go with their performance at the project’s launch event. That fact together with the determined positivity of the song led to this lo-fi documentary-style video, directed by bandmember Nick Turner.

Nick and the rest of the band travelled around the state (about the size of the UK) for a week or so, armed with their camcorders (and dressed in white) with a simple idea to reflect the feelgood, can-do vibes of the track Yes!: persuade Oklahoma folks everywhere to engage in some therapeutic fistpumping.

“It was quite hard to do a happy, upbeat video without making it too cheesy,” says Nick, who is actually the band’s only British member, having fallen in with his bandmates as an exchange student in Oklahoma a few years ago. But it isn’t cheesy, or saccharine, or tongue-in-cheek. It’s good times.
