Pixie Lott’s Gravity by Nick Frew

Pixie Lott’s Gravity by Nick FrewBrits-nominated Pixie Lott gets a splendid vehicle for new single Gravity which is clean, graphic, inventive and sexy – and particularly noteworthy for her transformation into Melanie Griffiths in Something Wild. And it comes, somewhat surprisingly, from Nick Frew, demonstrating in one fell swoop that’s he’s not just a talented FX director (although there’s some neat understated effects work in this too).

A great video for Pixie and Mercury, and big beauty-glam breakthrough for Nick.

Nick Frew on making the video for Pixie Lott’s Gravity

“Gravity was about unfussy elegance. I wasn’t interested in show-stopping special effects and clever clever post – just simple in camera techniques addressing the concept. So long as Pixie looked stunning I was happy – It was liberating, for once, to put beauty first.

Pixie Lott’s Gravity by Nick Frew“The best part? For the red dot set-up, I wanted Pixie stock still, looking utterly sensational. Michelle Kelly did me proud with this massive, feathery, one-off Kristian Aadnevik showpiece. As soon as Pixie appeared wearing it with her black wig, there was a real buzz on set. Karen Alder (make up artist) did an amazing job on Pixie’s jewel encrusted eyes – I love the way she works.

“Under Eric Maddison’s lights, swinging her dress around her, Pixie had the whole crew gathered round the monitor, cooing. It was incredibly satisfying.”
