Depeche Mode and Hickey Underworld videos win honours at Plus Cameraimage 2009

The Hickey Underworld's Blonde Fire by Joe VanhoutteghemThe videos for The Hickey Underworld’s Blonde Fire and Depeche Mode’s Wrong have won the big honours at the first Music Video Competition held at the Plus Cameraimage Festival, the film festival focussed on the art and craft of cinematography, which has just wrapped its 17th annual edition.

The astonishing Hickey Underworld video – directed by Joe Vanhoutteghem and shot by Nicolas Karakatsanis – won the best video award, while Shawn Kim won the best cinematography in a music video award for his work on the Depeche Mode clip, directed by Patrick Daughters.

Depeche Mode’s Wrong by Patrick DaughtersThe two were selected from the 15 nominated videos shown at the festival to an audience including the music video competition jury led by top feature and music video director Brett Ratner, and also featuring veteran music video DoP Martin Coppen, cinematographer and director Andrzej Bartkowiak, Polish music journalist Piotr Metz and cinematographer and steadicam operator Nicola Pecorini.

Plus Cameraimage, held at Lodz in Poland, also welcomed hundreds of cinematographers, cameramen and other filmmakers and fans over seven days – including Terry Gilliam, Richard Zanuck, Bill Murray, Thelma Schoonmaker, Volker Schlondorff, Allan Starski, Alan Parker and Rutger Hauer.
