Ross McLennan, Will Bex, Shawn Kim, and MVA-winner Lasse Frank are among the cinematographers recognized for their work in music videos over the past year, in the shortlist of 15 music videos selected for the first official music video competition at Plus Cameraimage, the international film festival focused on the art and craft of cinematography, which takes place in Lodz, Poland from 28th November to 5th December.

Among seven UK commissioned videos in the shortlist, Ross McLennan has been nominated for his work on Delphic’s This Momentary directed by Dave Ma, Will Bex nominated for the Filthy Dukes’ Messages, directed by Nicholas Randall, Stewart Bentley for Corin Hardy’s Prodigy video for Warriors Dance, Shawn Kim for Patrick Daughters’ video for Depeche Mode’s Wrong and Lasse Frank for Martin de Thurah’s video for Glasvegas’s Flowers and Football Tops – winner of best cinematography at the recent UK MVAs.

Chosen by a selection committee headed by Daniel Pearl ASC, the renowned American cinematographer of numerous feature films and music videos – and a driving force behind Plus Cameraimage’s new music video competition – the videos include those chosen for their quality of cinematography and others for their use of various animation techniques.

All the selected videos will be presented at an official screening at this year’s Plus Cameraimage, for festival attendees and the competition jury, which is chaired by Brett Ratner, director of movies including X-Men: Last Stand and Red Dragon, and music videos for Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Madonna, P Diddy and many more. Also on the jury are esteemed music video DoP Martin Coppen (Sting, Nine Inch Nails, Christina Aguilera, Shakira), cinematographer/ director Andrzej Bartkowiak (Speed, The Devil’s Advocate, Lethal Weapon 4, Falling Down) and cinematographer/steadicam operator Nicola Pecorini (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Harrison’s Flowers, Tideland, Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus).
