Richard Ayoade, Warp Films, Alex Turner and Domino Records took both the main video prizes at last night’s Shockwaves NME Awards in London last night, winning best video for Last Shadow Puppets’ My Mistakes Were Made For You, and the best DVD prize for Arctic Monkeys live concert film At The Apollo.
Richard – star of C4′s The IT Crowd, comedy writer and director of videos for Last Shadow Puppets, Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend and others – went on stage at the O2 Academy Brixton with the Puppets’ Miles Kane and Alex Turner to accept the award from Girls Aloud’s Sarah Harding and Nicola Roberts.
The My Mistakes video – inspired by Fellini’s cult short film Toby Dammit and featuring Turner’s girlfriend Alexa Chung – was commissioned by Jonny Bradshaw at Domino, produced by Jon Adams at Warp Films, and shot by Sam Brown at Pinewood Studios.
Richard and Alex then returned to the stage to collect the best DVD prize from Klaxons’ Jamie Reynolds and Florence Welch for the Warp Films-produced At The Apollo.
The longform was shot entirely on film – and Richard made a point of thanking Kodak in his acceptance remarks.
