James Lebon
Tuesday, 30. December 2008 - 2:43 pm
It’s with great sadness that we announce that James Lebon, an influential figure in British music and fashion, and a very successful music video director in the early Nineties, has died at the age of 49.
James directed numerous popular videos for the likes of Kylie Minogue, Betty Boo, PJ & Duncan (aka Ant & Dec), Right Said Fred, Lisa B and D:Ream when he was one of the UK’s top music video directors.
Also a model and a recording artist in his own right, James did much to help popularise New York hip-hop and streetwear fashions in the UK from the early 1980s onwards, through his involvement in hip-hop club The Language Lab, fashion label Stussy, and the ultra-hip Buffalo collective.
An appreciation of James’s contributions to fashion, music and film is at The Look, and a Facebook group has been established, The Don And Not Forgotten as “a fan page for anybody who had the good fortune to cross paths with Mr.James Lebon… A Bon Vivant, a groover, a warm soul, a west London and worldwide superstar, a husband, a father, a friend …And someone who was definitely cooler than you…”
James’s memorial service will be held at the West London Crematorium, Harrow Road this Saturday, January 3rd, at 11.30am.

I love & miss you, James; one of a kind, a great friend and a WICKED brother-in-law. It saddens me terribly that I cannot be in London to celebrate your life with your many many friends, but I will be with all those who love you, in Los Angeles, to do so on the 11th.
Goodbye James.

We were great friends at Sutton Valence School in the 1970s, and he helped me to settle in in my 1st year in 1971 (he a jew, me a muslim, born 1 day apart). I was very sad at his passing away, but was proud & happy that he made so much out of life in the 50 years he got.
