Video Mixtape by Sarah Chatfield
Friday, 19. December 2008 - 11:41 am
Award-winning director of sophisticated pop videos for Lily Allen, Lykke Li, Annie, and many more, Sarah Chatfield has ventured where others fear to tread.
Yes, Sarah (or “Chatters”, as she is known over at Colonel Blimp, and elsewhere) has courageously stepped up to the plate with a pre-Christmas selection of music video goodies (previously described in these parts as a Guest Playlist) for your enjoyment. Hooray!
Actually it’s less about the Yule than wedding-inspired – but we’ll have at least one more Mixtape on Promo before Christmas actually arrives.
And hopefully there will be more in the New Year too. That would be marvellous.
Chatters’ Promo News Video Mixtape
So, my best friend has just got engaged and all I’ve been hearing about recently is dresses, flowers and honeymoon locations. The other day, as I sat there and pretended to listen, it suddenly occurred to me what the theme of my Promonews Mixtape should be.
So here goes: Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue…
I’ve tried to pick a few things you may not have seen before, or at least not for a long time. Hope you enjoy.
Something Old…

Bjork – Unravel
Director: Lynn Fox
Quicktime movie
I’ve picked this little clip by Lynn Fox as I think a lot of people may not have seen it. It was actually commissioned as a tour visual rather than a music video. But it is certainly a video in its own right, and I think one of the most strangely beautiful and elegantly simple things they’ve ever made. I remember watching this when I first joined Blink as a runner and being completely spellbound by it.
Something New…
Poni Hoax – Antibodies
Director: Danakil
Quicktime movie
I saw this video the other day and really didn’t like it at first. It made me uncomfortable and squirm in my seat. But then I found myself thinking about it later in the day. And the day after that. Its provocative and unsettling and I think its hard to evoke a strong reaction with a video these days. But this one has imprinted itself on my brain. So I thought I’d stick it in the list.
Danakil is a director and photographer from France. I’m loving his photographs too.

Fiona Apple – Across The Universe
Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
This is kind of an oldie, but one of my favourites. Fiona borrows this classic song from the Beatles and for me this is a video that 100% perfectly captures the mood of the music.
This is my favourite Paul Thomas Anderson/Fiona Apple collaboration and it always surprises me how many people have never seen it when I happen to mention it. So here it is. You’ve all seen it now so no excuses.
here and
…Something Blue

Dirty Vegas – Days Go By
Director: Blue Source
Something Blue had to be a Blue Source video really didn’t it? And here is one of my all-time favourites. Doesn’t need any explanation really. It’s just brilliant. And his outfit is blue too. God I’m clever.
