Diamond Dogs – that’s Phil Sansom and Olly Williams – multi-nominated for the UK Music Video Awards on October 14th – won the Virgin Media Shorts Grand Prize with their first short film The Black Hole on Monday night.
The Black Hole was written and directed by Phil and Olly, shot by Will Bex and produced by Ben Sullivan. And it stars Napoleon Ryan – who also played “Ray” in the Dogs’ video for The Hoosiers’ Worried About Ray which has three nominations at the MVAs (Phil and Olly have seven nominations in all, including best director).
At the Virgin Media Shorts awards ceremony at the BFI Southbank, The Black Hole was chosen as the winner from a short-list of twelve films – there were over a thousand original entries – by a panel including Virgin boss Richard Branson, Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha, and film and stage actor and director Kevin Spacey – here pictured with Phil (right) and Olly.
