Directing team DARYL’s latest and possibly most high-profile video so far is a gritty tale set in the murky world of London boxing, particularly distinguished by some excellent photography by DoP Ed Rutherford and wincingly real fight sequences.
DARYL say they were influenced by the documentary-cinematic approach of Shane Meadows and Lynn Ramsey for the video. “We wanted everything to look filmic but with a real and raw feel, trying to create a balance between some of the more classic boxing films such as Raging Bull and Cinderella Man, with real footage of real fights.
“Ed Rutherford was outstanding, creating exactly what we had asked and more. The guy is flawless. We were aware that the videos success would rely heavily on the casting in order to accomplish the type of atmosphere we were trying to execute. The lead guys, both real boxers, totally nailed their scenes. They had to fight each other for real for most of the day, so we owe them big.”
