Grammys: Akerlund and Kaye win video awards

Grammy-winning long form video for Madonna’s Confessions TourAmy Winehouse grabbed five awards and the headlines, but also among the prizewinners at the 50th Grammy Awards were Jonas Akerlund and Tony Kaye, who directed the winners of the best long form and short form music video categories at last night’s ceremony in Los Angeles.

Akerlund won the best long form music video award for his concert film of Madonna’s Confessions Tour, ahead of nominees including R Kelly’s Trapped In The Closet (chapters 13-22). It’s the latest award for Akerlund’s work with the singer which began with the video for Ray Of Light and also includes the documentary I Want To Tell You A Secret.

It features a huge array of famous faces lipsyncing to the track – including Justin Timberlake who reportedly originated the concept.

The video came out ahead of Feist’s 1234 directed by Patrick Daughters, Gnarls Barkely’s Gone Daddy Gone directed by Chris Milk, Justice’s DANCE directed by Jonas & Francois & So-me, and Mute Math’s Typical directed by Brandon Arolfo.
